The Happy Cow Vegetarian Food Store

Friday, February 6th, 2009

If you didn’t know, the Akron First Seventh-day Adventist Church runs a vegetarian food store. The purpose of the store is to promote healthy eating and provide easy access to your favorite meatless vegetarian food products. All proceeds benefit students at Mayfair Christian School.

The food store, located in the secretary’s office, is open from 4:45pm – 7:00pm on two Wednesdays a month. Check http://akronadventist.com/thehappycow or the current bulletin for dates. New this year, The Happy Cow Vegetarian Food Store is also taking food orders. A list of all available foods and prices, along with order forms, can be downloaded from the website or picked up in the literature rack across from the secretary’s office. You can place an order by emailing a completed order form to thcveggie@gmail.com or dropping it off in the locked mailbox next to the literature rack at the church. Items currently in inventory at the store will be made available for pickup within two weeks. Items not currently in inventory will be available after the store’s next delivery from the Adventist Book Center. For your convenience, order pickup can be arranged outside of food store hours. If you have any questions, please email us at thcveggie@gmail.com. We look forward to serving you!

Calvin Taylor Concert

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

The Akron First Seventh-day Adventist church will be hosting a concert by Dr. Calvin Taylor on Saturday, July 12 at 8pm. There is no charge for admission.

Dr. Taylor has toured throughout the world, performing in North and South America, Europe, Ukraine, and the Far East. Holding degrees in music from Oberlin Conservatory, The University of Michigan, and the University of Kentucky, Calvin has authored several music books and has ten solo recordings to his credit. Movements from his Sunrise Symphony have been performed by several orchestras including Nashville, Shreveport, South Arkansas, and Detriot Symphony Orchestras.

Awarded a full scholarship to Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, Calvin Taylor’s ability to improvise led him to become the first student in the school’s over one hundred fifty-year histroy to improvise a graduate concert encore. And with an unusually large hand span of over 1 1/2 octaves, Dr. Taylor presents sounds and colors at the keyboard which would normally require four hands.

Chili Open

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Our “Chili Open” was a success. The weather cooperated – it was a beautiful sunny day. Eighteen of us enjoyed a chili lunch, salads, corn bread, and yummy desserts. After lunch we had a good time just catching up on visiting. The next lunch will be on Wednesday, April 30 at noon. Bring your favorite casserole or vegetable; dessert and drink will be provided. Bring a friend or family member to join us for good food and fellowship. Goldenaires is for anyone of retirement age. If you have any questions, talk to Nancy Potts.
