Calvin Taylor Concert

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

The Akron First Seventh-day Adventist church will be hosting a concert by Dr. Calvin Taylor on Saturday, July 12 at 8pm. There is no charge for admission.

Dr. Taylor has toured throughout the world, performing in North and South America, Europe, Ukraine, and the Far East. Holding degrees in music from Oberlin Conservatory, The University of Michigan, and the University of Kentucky, Calvin has authored several music books and has ten solo recordings to his credit. Movements from his Sunrise Symphony have been performed by several orchestras including Nashville, Shreveport, South Arkansas, and Detriot Symphony Orchestras.

Awarded a full scholarship to Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, Calvin Taylor’s ability to improvise led him to become the first student in the school’s over one hundred fifty-year histroy to improvise a graduate concert encore. And with an unusually large hand span of over 1 1/2 octaves, Dr. Taylor presents sounds and colors at the keyboard which would normally require four hands.

Goldenaires Luncheon

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

In spite of the snow and cold, several hardy souls ventured out for the Goldenaires luncheon on February 27. A variety of pasta dishes, salad and desserts were enjoyed. A visit to Italy’s Amalfi coast (via DVD) made our Italian dinner feel a little more authentic. Our next lunch will be at noon on Wednesday, March 26, when we will have a “Chili Open” - no, we won’t be golfing in the snow, just enjoying chili for lunch. Mark your calendar now and plan to attend. More information will be in the bulletin in a few weeks. Goldenaires is open to anyone of retirement age.
