Win a 10 Dollar Happy Cow Gift Certificate

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

It has been several years since the last time the church directory was updated. If you have not already turned in your information, please take the time to fill out and turn in the church directory update form in today’s bulletin. Everyone who turns in the form by March the 14th will also be entered into a drawing, from which one lucky individual will be chosen to receive a $10 gift certificate to the Happy Cow Vegetarian Food Store, our church food store. By turning in your directory form promptly, you will not only help us to create an accurate and up-to-date directory but you also may be the lucky recipient of some fabulous, free Happy Cow Vegetarian Food Store products.

Bridges 101

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

It isn’t often that I have read a “how to” book that keeps my attention and stirs my imagination. Author Ruthie Jacobsen has managed to do both splendidly in a short and provocative paper back, Bridges 101.

Have you ever wanted to “witness” but weren’t quite sure how? This book is for the non-Mark Finleys and non-Walter Pearsons among us who get sweaty palms every time a witnessing opportunity appears. It is chock-full of stories how Ruthie and others have used everyday happenings to connect spiritually with new people. Your horizons of how to share your faith will be expanded as you read about “A Bathroom Party” to “The Singing, Dancing, Painter”. I particularly appreciated her application of author Steve Sjogren’s concepts of “low-risk/high-grace” and “seedflingers”. I’m confident you too will find yourself saying, “Yes, I could do something like that!”

If I have peaked your interest in this book, and I hope I have, you can read it for yourself by checking it out of our Church Library (see librarian Doris Grayem) or by purchasing it from the ABC in Mount Vernon (800-765-6955).

The Happy Cow Vegetarian Food Store

Friday, February 6th, 2009

If you didn’t know, the Akron First Seventh-day Adventist Church runs a vegetarian food store. The purpose of the store is to promote healthy eating and provide easy access to your favorite meatless vegetarian food products. All proceeds benefit students at Mayfair Christian School.

The food store, located in the secretary’s office, is open from 4:45pm – 7:00pm on two Wednesdays a month. Check http://akronadventist.com/thehappycow or the current bulletin for dates. New this year, The Happy Cow Vegetarian Food Store is also taking food orders. A list of all available foods and prices, along with order forms, can be downloaded from the website or picked up in the literature rack across from the secretary’s office. You can place an order by emailing a completed order form to thcveggie@gmail.com or dropping it off in the locked mailbox next to the literature rack at the church. Items currently in inventory at the store will be made available for pickup within two weeks. Items not currently in inventory will be available after the store’s next delivery from the Adventist Book Center. For your convenience, order pickup can be arranged outside of food store hours. If you have any questions, please email us at thcveggie@gmail.com. We look forward to serving you!
